Mar de León
Para mi columna de hoy me permití traducir una canción de
Bob Dylan que, a mi parecer es profética por los tiempos de guerra que
lamentable y paradójicamente estamos viviendo en la actualidad.
Me reservo
el derecho a declarar si profeso alguna religión, o no.
With God on Our Side
Oh my name it ain’t
nothin’
My age it means less
The country I come from
Is called the Midwest
I’s taught and brought up
there
The laws to abide
And that the land that I
live in
Has God on its side
Con Dios de nuestro
lado
Mi
nombre no es nada
El
significado de mi edad es menor
El
país de donde vengo
Lo
llaman Occidente
Aquí
me concibieron y educaron
Para
obedecer las leyes
Y
aprendí que la tierra donde vivo
Tiene
a Dios de su lado
Oh the history books tell
it
They tell it so well
The cavalries charged
The Indians fell
The cavalries charged
The
Indians died
Los
libros de historia lo dicen
Lo
dicen muy bien
Las
caballerías atacaron
Los
Indios se rindieron
Las
caballerías atacaron
Los Indios murieron
Oh the country was young
With God on its side
El país era joven
Y
tenía a Dios de su lado
Oh the Spanish-American
War has its day
And the Civil War too
Was soon laid away
And the names of the
heroes
I’s made to memorize
With guns in their hands
And
God on their side
Oh the First World War,
boys
It closed out its fate
The reason for fighting
I never got straight
But I learned to accept it
Accept it with pride
For you don’t count the
dead
When God’s on your side
When the Second World War
Came to an end
We forgave the Germans
And then we were friends
Though they murdered six
million
In the ovens they fried
The Germans now too
Have God on their side
La
Guerra de España-América
Concluyó
su día
Y
la Guerra Civil también
Pronto
fue desechada
Y
los nombres de los héroes
Que
me hicieron memorizar
Tenían
armas en sus manos
Y
a Dios de su lado
La
Primera Guerra Mundial, niños
Cerró
su destino
La
razón por la que pelearon
Nunca
la entendí
Pero
aprendí a aceptarla
Aceptarla
con honor
Porque
los muertos no se cuentan
Cuando
Dios está de tu lado
La
Segunda Guerra Mundial
Llegó
a su fin
Perdonamos
a los alemanes
Y
luego hasta nos hicimos amigos
Aunque
masacraron a seis millones
En
los hornos los frieron
Los
alemanes ahora también Tienen a Dios de su lado
I’ve learned to hate the
Russians
All through my whole life
If another war starts
It’s them we must fight
To hate them and fear them
To run and to hide
And accept it all bravely
With God in my side
But now we got weapons
Of the chemical dust
If fire them we’re forced
to
Then fire them we must
One push of the button
And a shot the world wide
And you never ask
questions
When God’s on your side
Through many dark hour
I’ve been thinkin’ about
this
That Jesus Christ
Was betrayed by a kiss
But I can’t think for you
You’ll have to decide
Whether Judas Iscariot
Had God on his side
Aprendí
a odiar a los rusos
A
lo largo de toda mi vida
Si
otra guerra comenzara
Contra
ellos habrá que contender
Habremos
que odiarlos y temerles
Que
huirles y esconder
Y
aceptarlo valiente
Con
Dios de mi lado
Pero
ahora tenemos armas
De
residuos químicos
Si
nos obligan a accionarlas
Entonces
accionadas serán
Oprimir
un botón
Y
lanzarlas al mundo
Y
no se hacen preguntas
Cuando
tienes a Dios de tu lado
En
una hora sombría
He
reflexionado sobre esto
Que
Jesucristo
Fue
traicionado con un beso
Pero
no puedo especular por ti
Tú
tienes que decidir
Si
Judas Iscariote
Tenía
o no a Dios de su lado
So now as I’m leavin’
I’m weary as Hell
The confusion I’m feelin’
Ain’t no tongue can tell
The words fill my head
And fall to the floor
If
God’s on our side
He’ll
stop the next war
Así
que, ahora me voy
Con
un fastidio infernal
La
confusión que estoy sintiendo
En
ninguna lengua se descifrará
Las
palabras colman mi mente
Y
se desploman al piso
Si
Dios está de nuestro lado
Impedirá
la próxima guerra
